Rebuilding the Bayverse

What began as an attempt to rethink Michael Bay’s original Transformers films gradually grew into one of Phoenix Studios’ largest and most popular rewrite projects. The Bayverse Rewrite rebuilds the saga as a character-driven space opera, expanding Cybertron's mythology, strengthening the human and Autobot relationships, and allowing each film to function as another chapter in a larger story.

More than meets the rewrite.

The Original Trilogy

From first contact to full-scale invasion, this rewrite series gradually expands the conflict between the Autobots and Decepticons across three interconnected films. Each chapter builds on the characters, mythology, and consequences of the one before it, transforming the original - and somewhat disconnected - trilogy into a larger science-fiction saga.

These rewrites were never about stripping away everything that made the Bay films what they were. The spectacle, military action, larger-than-life Transformers, and sense of scale remain part of the DNA. The goal was to build a stronger story underneath them - giving the Autobots and Decepticons richer characterization, expanding Cybertron into a true science-fantasy mythology, and allowing the conflict on Earth to grow naturally from one film into the next.

The second chapter expands the conflict beyond the comparatively contained story of the first film, introducing a larger Cybertronian ensemble and pushing the rewrite toward full space opera. As new factions, histories, and threats emerge, Sam and Bumblebee remain caught at the center of a war that is becoming much bigger than Earth.

The trilogy reaches its largest scale as the buried history of the Cybertronian war finally catches up with Earth. The Moon, the Decepticons’ larger conspiracy, and the growing ensemble bring the story toward a climax built around the characters and mythology established across the previous two films.

The Sequel Trilogy

The first three films may have ended one chapter of the Bayverse, but the larger Cybertronian conflict is far from over. Films 4–6 push the rewrite into a new era, expanding the mythology, introducing a new generation of characters, and exploring the consequences left behind by the original trilogy.

A new era. A larger war.

Although the produced rewrite series concluded with Transformers 3, development continued on a possible fourth chapter. These surviving treatments and notes preserve the characters, conflicts, and ideas that might have carried the rewritten Bayverse into its next era.

You Write What Happens Next

Phoenix Studios may have started these rewrites, but the story doesn't have to belong to one writer. The Star Wars & Transformers Rewrite Challenge invited members of the community to use the existing rewrites and continuation outlines as a starting point, then follow them, remix them, or take the story somewhere completely unexpected.

Challenge Closed - Winners to be Announced
The Rewrite Challenge

Participants were challenged to continue one of Phoenix Studios’ unfinished rewrite series - Star Wars Episodes II and III, the Transformers Sequel Trilogy, or Transformers: Prime Seasons 2 and 3 - using the existing videos and story outlines as a starting point. Writers were free to follow those ideas, remix them, or take the story in an entirely different direction, with no required length or format beyond finding the best way to tell their version of the story. The goal was simple: take what came before and make the next chapter your own. All submissions were due by August 2026.
