A Different DC Universe

Before DC Studios entered a new era, the DCEU Rewrite began as an exercise in head canon: keeping what worked from the DCEU’s existing films while imagining where those characters and stories might have gone next. Rather than starting completely from scratch, the series expanded the universe through new sequels, solo films, team-ups, and long-term character arcs designed to make the larger world feel more connected and cohesive.

The Original Slate

Before the larger series was retired, several pieces of the planned universe made their way onto the Phoenix Studios YouTube channel. These videos introduced some of the characters, films, and directions that would have shaped our alternate version of the DCEU.

DCEU Rewrite Series Retirement

Why the Series Ended

The DCEU Rewrite was ultimately retired following James Gunn and Peter Safran’s takeover of DC Studios and the announcement of a new, interconnected DC Universe. With DC preparing to start fresh - and with plenty of confidence and excitement surrounding Gunn’s vision - the need to continue building our own head canon simply wasn’t as strong as it once was.

Retiring the DCEU Rewrite gave Phoenix Studios the freedom to focus on other stories, including the growing Transformers and Star Wars rewrite series, while DC itself prepared for a new beginning of its own. The old DCEU may have remained unfinished, but the ideas developed here helped shape the way Phoenix Studios would approach shared universes, character arcs, and long-form rewrite projects for years to come.
