Rewriting the Skywalker Saga

Few fictional worlds invite imagination quite like Star Wars. This rewrite series revisits different eras of the Skywalker Saga, keeping the characters, mythology, and ideas we love while exploring how familiar stories might have unfolded differently. Some chapters became full videos, others survive in writing, but together they represent one of Phoenix Studios’ largest and most enduring rewrite projects.

Keeping the myth. Changing the journey.

The Prequel Trilogy

The first era of the project returns to Anakin Skywalker’s beginnings, the decline of the Jedi, and the political collapse that gives rise to the Empire. Across video rewrites, written outlines, and unfinished story notes, our Prequel Trilogy rewrite explores a different road toward the tragedy audiences already know is coming.

Development on the Episode II rewrite continued beyond the completed first act, leaving behind an outline for the remainder of the story. Rather than treating those unfinished ideas as a missing video, they became part of the Star Wars & Transformers Rewrite Challenge, inviting other writers to decide how the story should continue.

You Write What Happens Next

Phoenix Studios may have started these rewrites, but the story doesn't have to belong to one writer. The Star Wars & Transformers Rewrite Challenge invited members of the community to use the existing rewrites and continuation outlines as a starting point, then follow them, remix them, or take the story somewhere completely unexpected.

The Rewrite Challenge

Participants were challenged to continue one of Phoenix Studios’ unfinished rewrite series - Star Wars Episodes II and III, the Transformers Sequel Trilogy, or Transformers: Prime Seasons 2 and 3 - using the existing videos and story outlines as a starting point. Writers were free to follow those ideas, remix them, or take the story in an entirely different direction, with no required length or format beyond finding the best way to tell their version of the story. The goal was simple: take what came before and make the next chapter your own. All submissions were due by August 2026.

Behind the Rewrites

Want to know how we rewrote the prequels? This companion piece explores the larger thought process behind the rewrite, including the creative choices, tonal challenges, and guiding principles that shaped Phoenix Studios’ alternate version of the trilogy.

The Sequel Trilogy

Years after beginning with the Prequels, the Star Wars Rewrite Series returned to another controversial corner of the Skywalker Saga. Rather than continuing the same story directly, the Sequel Trilogy rewrites explore a new generation of heroes and villains while asking how the final era of the saga might have taken a different path.

A Phoenix Studios Favorite

The Star Wars rewrites became one of Phoenix Studios’ most popular long-form projects, growing from early experiments with The Phantom Menace into a wider exploration of the saga. Along the way, the series helped establish many of the ideas that would become central to the channel: preserving what works, questioning what doesn't, and treating a rewrite as an opportunity to tell a new, hypothetical story rather than simply "repair" an old one.

A galaxy that kept calling us back.
